I was delighted to be commissioned by BALTIC to produce an original print to be distributed as a token of our thanks and appreciation to the artists exhibiting in the BALTIC Open Submission, and our incredible NHS staff, for the vital role they have and continue to play in our society.
My work is Alphabet of a Pandemic 2021. A Hand embroidery (textile) on Ecrue linen base fabric, with Perle cotton 2 ply embroidery thread for images and text. Original size: 18.5cm x 27cm (185mm x 270mm). The print is Giclée print on Photo Rag paper.
This embroidery evokes a Victorian sampler, replacing traditional religious and moral alphabetised texts, with words and phrases that became commonplace during the 2020-21 Pandemic.
